The last time any of the Rochester Americans played together as a team at First Niagara Center is when they faced the Portland Pirates in 2008. That was also when the Sabres affiliate had been switched over to the Pirates. Times have changed since then.
The Rochester Americans will take on the Hamilton Bulldogs tomorrow night at the home of the Buffalo Sabres. Thanks to the lockout going on, it had been announced that this Amerks game would be moved to tomorrow instead of happening yesterday. Don’t mind if I do. Living in Buffalo, I don’t get to go out to Rochester too often to see some AHL hockey. I know many Amerks fans (especially the season ticket holders) are peeved because of the game being put here. With it being on a Tuesday night, I can see where the arguments come in. People are coming home from work only to immediately having to drive out to Buffalo if they wish to. A lot of people in Buffalo want to see the farm team though and this could provide a lot of revenue for the arena and for workers that finally have something to do with the lockout and all. I’m all for it.
I have a feeling that there’ll be a lot of our Northern friends at this game due to it being fairly close to Hamilton. Actually, Hamilton is relatively closer to Buffalo than Rochester is – isn’t that lovely? It would be much better if this game could have been scheduled on a weekend but then there would be more Hamilton fans than Rochester fans – just like Sabres/Leafs games. I went to a Hamilton/Rochester game last year at the BCA and it was awesome. I think that was the first time I had gone when that place was sold out – definitely a fun game. If I’m not mistaken, Hamilton had won that game 5-4. Rochester had been winning but naturally blew it, as we’re used to in Buffalo sports. Let’s not even talk about that Bills loss from yesterday…
So far in the season, Marcus Foligno is on fire for the Amerks and it should be fun to watch him play here in Buffalo again. If only it could be in a Sabres uniform like it should be. Also, Sabres fans will get a taste to see Zemgus Girgensons do some business. From what I’ve seen, he’s been providing some muscle to the Amerks squad and has played well. He’s also gotten a few points for the team. I’m just excited to see what the rookies (guys like Pysyk and the aforementioned Girgensons) will do playing in front of a lot of people who will hopefully soon see them in Sabres uniforms.
If you haven’t gotten a ticket yet to this game, do so! It’ll give you a chance to see some good hockey and an even greater battle between both teams.
